15th BCAA: Prestigious performing arts awards show has released list of nominees
BOH Plantations and Kakiseni are announcing the eight shows nominated for the Best of 2017 Awards at the 15th BOH Cameronian Arts Awards (15th BCAA). Drawn from productions across four performing arts categories, (Music, Dance, Theatre & Musical Theatre), eight nominees have been released for this year’s Best of 2017 Awards.
The 15th edition of Both Cameronian Arts Awards continues the overall “Best of” category format from last year, and this year so many more exemplars of their respective artistic field adorns the list – with a slightly dominating presence for dance and musical theatre.
In addition to the Best of 2017 Awards nominations, Kakiseni and BOH Plantations are also announcing the Nominees of the Category Awards that’s been judged to be worth for inclusion this year. These Awards are given in recognition of artistic excellence achieved by individuals or groups in specific areas of performance and creative production. On Awards Night, PwC, the Ballot Partner of the BCAA, will reveal which Nominees will be Recipients of a BOH Cameronian Arts Award trophy along with a RM1000 cash prize.
Caroline Russell, Deputy Chairman and CEO of BOH Plantations, said, “The 15th BOH Cameronian Arts Awards continues to focus on the theme, ‘Raising the Bar of Artistic Excellence’, with the aim to inspire outstanding artists to take their place in the roll of honour of Malaysia’s performing arts. BOH congratulates all eight of the 2017 ‘Best Of’ nominees on a job well done. We encourage you to journey on and master your craftsmanship. You certainly have an important role to develop a richer, more diverse and thriving performing arts scene in Malaysia in the years ahead.”
Sharing how the Awards will help its Recipients, Low Ngai Yuen, President of Kakiseni, said, “We are seeing a whole generation of Malaysians artists come of age in the industry, presenting audiences with works that challenge them in all the right ways. Kakiseni is glad that these promising practitioners are being recognised at the BOH Cameronian Arts Awards which has always been a platform to help them launch themselves into the next stage of their career. Kakiseni also pledges to support the Recipients of the Best of Awards by creating opportunities with corporate sponsors or to expand their horizons by helping them attend international art events.”
Three Best Shows of 2017 from the eight list of nominees will be announced at the award night on Sunday, 24th of June 2018 at Hilton Kuala Lumpur.
Gamechangers to spark conversation
Another essential part of BOH Cameronian Arts Awards is also the highlighting of Malaysian practitioners who get international attention for their work in the arts. The inspiring figures from last year were Rendra Zawawi, a musician and composer of many accolades and Mr. Tan Chong Hing, a visionary who brought lion dance to a much larger audience.
This year’s gamechangers include Aida Redza, one of Malaysia’s most forward-thinking dancers; Sharu Delilkan, a theatre producer, publicist and marketer in New Zealand; and Raz Razak, a guitarist making waves in the Los Angeles music scene. On 24 June, Aida, Sharu and Raz will attend the Awards Night as guests of honour to present the Category Awards to the Recipients.
