Australian Documentary Exposes Shocking Allegations Against Malaysian Prime Minister

MALAYSIAN prime minister Najib Razak was hit with a new wave of allegations linking him to money-laundering and murder in the Australian Broadcasting Corporation‘s Four Corners on Monday.

The investigative programme aired an episode on 29 March 2016 titled State of Fear, which saw involvement from Linton Besser and cameraman Louie Eroglu, both of whom were detained on 12 March 2016 for attempting to question Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak during his official visit to a mosque in Kuching.

They were deported on March 15 for violating immigration laws in Sarawak.

Across 44 minutes of shocking footage and revelations, the documentary paints Malaysia in disturbing light in its attempt to provide viewers around the world an understanding of the state of the nation.

Aside from delving into the highly-controversial 1MDB sovereign wealth fund scandal and the ruling coalition’s crackdown on the opposition, State of Fear also looked into the murder of Altantuya Shaariibuu and the bizarre press conference involving A. Selvi, wife of the late private investigator P. Balasubramaniam.

Among individuals interviewed in the program are central bank governor Zeti Aziz, former prime minister Tun Dato’ Seri Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad, Kevin Morais (brother to slain prosecutor Charles Morais), and member of parliament Tony Pua.

This edition of Four Corners is the latest in a series of international exposés on the prime minister and the ruling coalition. Last year, US-based news publication The Wall Street Journal ran investigations on the 1MDB scandal.

As of today, foreign press have expressed far  in bringing light to the new allegations compared to major Malaysian news agencies.
