More ‘Halfworlds’ News: Bront, Reza, Puteri Make Special Appearance At Grand Hyatt
AS HBO Asia‘s newest and upcoming original series, Halfworlds draws closer to its television debut, a press junket was held at the Grand Hyatt, Kuala Lumpur last Tuesday revealing exclusive, behind-the-scenes clips from the eight episode series.
Like the press conference that was held back in June in Batam, Indonesia which you can read about in our previous postings, this one was a similar experience but with a special surprise — Indonesian actor Reza Rahadian, local fave Bront Palarae and eight year old guest star Puteri Balqis attended the event together with HBO Asia’s Head of Production and Executive Producer Erika North.
The event started off with a montage of clips from three previous HBO Asia original series: Serangoon Road, which walks a multicultural line set in Singapore; Dead Mine, a horror-action movie; and Grace, a four-part horror mini-series blending aspects of Asian mythology and tradition in the context of modern real-life scenarios.
“The premise behind Halfworlds is that these mythological creatures that form part of the folklore across our region are actually real and they have existed alongside us as humans undetected for centuries. The series brings this world to life in the alleys of present day Jakarta,” Erika stated during the event.
She also added that the dark-thriller series is something that would travel around but will stay rooted nonetheless.
In the series, Bront stars as a veteran detective who grows suspicious of protagonist Sarah (Salvita Decorte) and sets out on his own investigative journey, crossing paths with Reza Rahadian’s Tony, a powerful Demit who leaves a trail of destruction whereever he goes. Guest star Puteri plays a blind girl who finds herself a lot closer to the ongoings than she realizes.
The majority of the series will be in English with a tinge of Bahasa.
In addition to Bront, Reza and Salvita, the Asian ensemble cast of Halfworlds include a list of notable Indonesian actors: Adinia Wirasti, Aimee Saras, Alex Abbad, Arifin Putra, Ario Bayu, Cornelio Sunny, Hannah Al- Rashid, Nathan Hartono, Tara Basro and Verdi Solaiman.
While notable for his feature films, Halfworlds will mark director Joko Anwar‘s first venture into television and actors couldn’t be happier to have him on board.
“He’s cool and he knows what to do and is very ambitious,” Reza described working with Joko.
As for Malaysian’s Bront and Balqis who have never worked with Joko before, they both found the experience thrilling.
Halfworlds makes its Asian debut on 29th November at 10pm on HBO/ HBO HD. To non-subscribers, catch the first episode of Halfworlds for free after it premieres via the Halfworlds page.
