After attempting the impossible – directing Harold Pinter’s Betrayal in both Malay and English last year, multi-award winning director Joe Hasham OAM is now set to bring Malaysians the outrageously irreverent, side-splittingly funny and heart-achingly poignant Men in Heels.
Written by The Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre’s award-winning resident director and writer, Mark Beau de Silva, Men in Heels showcases relatable stories of three individuals. “While the world is moving towards gender diversity, it is still fairly unorthodox in Malaysia. In the play, we have three very different individuals at very different stages in their life. They rely on each other, root for each other and yet celebrate their individuality fiercely. This play will showcase some of the hilarious scenarios they encounter but it’s also a comedy play with a heart in that it brings to light the struggles these characters endure,” Joe explains. Men in Heels is part of The Actors Studio’s 30th anniversary – a two-year celebration where 30 productions will be staged until 2019. It opens its curtains on February 24 until March 11, 2018 at Pentas 2, klpac and continues at the Performing Arts Centre of Penang (penangpac) from March 16 to 17, 2018.
