OVER the weekend, news surfaced that Umie Isa‘s original story for Astro First, Inayah, was republished as a novel without any credit to the original author. The new book, Inayah: Aku Ingin Pulang, has instead been credited to former entomologist turned novelist Maria Kajiwa.

Themed Konsert Tanah Airku, this partnership is scheduled on Friday, 17 November 2017 and Saturday, 18 November 2017 at 8.30 pm at Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS (DFP), KLCC. This will be the orchestras’ second collaboration; the first one was in 2014 in Johor Bahru. Prior to this, the MPYO has also collaborated with Yayasan Warisan Johor, Hong Kong Children’s Symphony Orchestra and Queensland Youth Symphony Orchestra. All collaborations have stretched the MPYO’s virtuosity and versatility to another level.
These concerts will affirm the MPYO’s status as an orchestra full of vibrant enthusiasm and energy, having grown by leaps and bounds since its establishment in 2006. With its current 98 members, the MPYO aims to nurture and encourage young musicians in their passion and integrate them into a highly skilled ensemble. In its brief existence, it has showcased its brilliant musicianship all around Malaysia including Sabah and Sarawak, Singapore and Brisbane, Australia.
The formation of the OTM is an ongoing effort by Ministry of Tourism & Culture Malaysia through Istana Budaya for reorganizing the traditional musicians as well as allowing traditional Malaysian music to achieve a high professional international standing. It is seen as a key catalyst for the Malaysian music revolution in the 21st century with its core repertoire comprises music of diverse ethnic races. The amalgamation of various genres acts as a means of uniting citizens of Malaysia. In these concerts, the MPYO and OTM will present traditional and folk songs such as Sri Mersing, Laksamana Raja Di Laut, Joget Irish For Sitar, Dialog Cak Lempong, Pantun Budi and Serampang Laut. These special showcases will feature legendary rock singer, Datuk Ramli Sarip who will lend his vocal prowess through songs such as Kamelia, Teratai, Kau Yang Satu and Syair Laila Majnun. This will be Ramli’s third performance on the DFP stage; he was the guest artist for Khadijah Ibrahim’s concert in 2008 and held his solo concert in 2010. All concerts will be led by MPYO’s Ahmad Muriz Che Rose and OTM’s Mohd Yazid Zakaria, and will feature vocalist Norihan Saif. Beguile in these magical splendour with the two orchestras, only at DFP!
