Hyrul Anuar Takes Peribahasa To A Whole New Level
AFTER scouring the internet for a peribahasa to help memuji hasil kerja orang lain, it slowly dawned on us that there was none. We wish it existed though, because what better way to compliment the works of visual artist Hyrul Anuar?
His stunning visual translations of Malay proverbs have received attention from international portals such as the BBC and Thought Catalog. These drawings were made on his Samsung Galaxy Note 3 — we’re green with envy for his sick skills.
The National Academy of Arts, Culture and Heritage (ASWARA) graduate in film and video has gone far with his graphic design skill, having worked for Leo Burnett in 2012 before receiving a work scholarship from United Colors of Benetton communication research centre Fabrica in 2014.
Last August, he also held a talk and workshop titled The Visual Series of Malay Proverbs in Yasmin At Kong Heng, Ipoh.
Now, we’ll let the pictures do the rest of the talking.
Tikam belakang
Seperti katak hendak jadi lembu
Sambil menyelam, minum air
Monyet mendapat bunga
Mengikat perut
Mendukung biawak yang hidup
Meludah ke langit, akhirnya muka sendiri juga yang basah
Laut dalam dapat diduga, hati manusia siapa yang tahu
Keluar mulut harimau, masuk mulut buaya
Kalau takut dilambung ombak, jangan berumah di tepi pantai
Berkayuh sampan bocor
Bercintakan geliga di mulut naga
Belum tumbuh gigi sudah pandai menggigit
Stalk Hyrul Anuar on his website, , and . You won’t regret it.
