In this month of July, be prepared to feast your eyes on the many productions brought by the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (KLPAC) along with an array of courses and even a competition!

From musicals to comedies to art exhibitions, KLPAC has you covered.


That’s Entertainment: A Night of Radio Hits

Packed with nostalgia glee, That’s Entertainment: A Night of Radio Hits, is a love story told accompanied by top radio hits dating all the way back to the 50’s until now. Endearing and wholesome, the show will take you on an adventure through the musical years. The musical production which has been showing since the 28th of June, will continue until the 7th of July, making it your last chance to catch this spectacular performance.

 Hansel & Gretel: A Fairy Tale Opera

An adaptation of the Grimm fairy tale, Hansel and Gretel is a 3 act opera, sung in English with Mandarin surtitles. The famous tale follows the story of two mischievous children who encounter the Sandman, Dew Fairy and an evil witch who turns them into gingerbread. Coming on the 5th until the 8th of July, listen to the story like never before.

IndicineliVe

Known for selling out shows, indicineliVe! Is an original comedic theatre production and one the only few revues in Kuala Lumpur, featuring a series sketches and parodies. Returning after a 6 year hiatus, the show will take place on the 19th til the 29th of July.

KYS Orchestra Concert

Kolej Yayasan Saad (KYS) will be celebrating their 20th year of performing with a KYS Orchestra concert, which features both the main and junior orchestra. Playing iconic songs such as Stairway to Heaven, Rasa Sayang and highlights from the movie, Annie, the show will be taking place for one night only on the 21st of July!

Teenage Dream

Teenage Dream, a theatre production brought by KLPAC’s Theatre for Young People (T4YP), features 3 stories in the youth’s journey of self-discovery. The final showcase this year by T4YP, who is known for producing productions of the utmost quality, will lead us to place our faith in the young. Ending July with a bang, the show will be taking place from the 26th until the 29th of July.

Company

One of Broadway’s most acclaimed musicals, Company, by Stephen Sondheim, has arrived on the shores of Malaysia thanks to PAN Productions. A musical comedy, the theatre production is a tale of bachelorhood, marriage, middle age and most importantly, learning. Hilarious and witty, this show happening from the 12th to 14th of July, will have you cracking up until your stomach hurts.

Redeeming Childhood, Redeeming Hope: An Art Exhibition

Finally, there is Redeeming Childhood, Redeeming Hope: An Art Exhibition which allows us to envision life and the future through the lens of the impoverished and young. The original paintings of these children will unravel the many hopes and dreams that they have of a better future. The art exhibition will be open daily from the 23rd of July until the 5th of August.

Nearing the end of July, we can rest in anticipation as August will be off to a good start.


Storytelling Contest by YSD Arts Festival

In conjunction with the Yayasan Sime Darby (YSD) Arts Festival, a Ned Dicken’s Storytelling contest will be held from the 25th of June until the 31st of July. Ned Dickens is a series of book by Andi Miranti, a 17 year-old Malaysian boy diagnosed with autism but managed to overcome all odds to produce the incredibly charming and entertaining story of Ned Dickens.

The contest encourages all forms of creativity as it involves participants to create stories for the characters through videos, oil paintings, paper-cut outs and more. The winners will be chosen by Andi himself and receive cash prizes, presented at the prize giving ceremony of the YSD Arts Festival on the 18th and 19th of August.
