Hey guys, there’s a new arts space in town and it’s called Markas!

GOT a shortage of performing arts space in your area? Wish to perform but venue rental ridiculously expensive? Well, worry no more! There is a new performing arts space called  which is now open especially for performers and cultural practitioners.

Located in Kota Damansara, Markas was previously a multi-brand select store by street wear label The Offday. It has since restructured as an alternative art space for young people interested in art, literature, and even science. Founding members of the new venue include designer and theatre-maker Fazleena Hishamuddin, who you may recognise from our coverage of Goda.

Markas could be the place for your upcoming minimalist theatre productions, acoustic performances, forums, film screenings and workshops. Promising affordable rates for budding artists, the flexible space can be utilised for almost any project — visit the place and let your imagination roam.

In conjunction with its opening Markas last Saturday, publishers Thukul Chetak, Lejen Press and writer Saharil Hasrin Sanin were in attendance to discuss their latest releases. There was also a book sale and a painting exhibition featuring works from children at the Teach For The Need (TFTN) orphanage centre.

The day however would not have been complete without the poetry of Hadi Jaafar, Ariff Sumbu, Ana Syuhada, Cik Ramlah, Azhar Ibrahim, Azam Rais, Zoul Yazix, Kaka Perawan and Bob Cincin Suasa among others.
