There’s something very different in the air. Malaysia’s eternal summer has begun to feel like spring, and it’s infected everyone with optimism and light. After the 9th of May, the apathy you could feel come off the city streets have begun to be replaced by a sense of hope. It isn’t just the end the end of a 61-year ruling party that has tirelessly censored, imprisoned and stolen from us. It’s the start of a new arts industry.

 Tales from Amma’s Kitchen is a series of 10 short scenes/plays written by Fa Abdul and presented by Big Nose Productions. The show ran for 3 days in the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre. Unlike their previous Tales from the Bedroom and Tales from the Jamban series, Tales from Amma’s Kitchen happen all in the same household with connecting characters, although the scenes were not entirely chronological.

This week we have a lot of hip hop with  R&B tracks for fans of the genre, including Flizzow, Aman Ra and LUNADIRA’s new track. Kayda’s debut single from her first official album is on this list too! As a crime drama that deals with police corruption and illegal immigrants, Crossroads: One Two Jaga constantly blurs the line between right and wrong, and between the good and the bad. A film that conveys such grey areas are unheard of and unseen in the Malaysian mainstream cinemas and its effort deserves to be lauded, despite its few drawbacks.
